Pilot Fireball Classic 5K
July 3, 2008
The Fireball Classic, run on the eve of the 4th of July, is a unique race that has something for almost everyone. Starting at 9:00 pm, it's the only local night race affiliated with the Knoxville Track Club. The late evening venue seems to appeal to competitive racers, casual runners and those who just want to have a fun evening. Beginning in front of the University of Tennessee Veterinary School on Neyland Drive, the course skirts the UT campus. The turn-around is adjacent to the world famous Vols Football Stadium. A slight uphill lets runners and walkers know that the finish line is just around the corner. The entire course is well lit, flat and fast, ideal for a PR. Post race activities are always filled with lots to drink and eat. It's a great way to begin this most patriotic holiday.
Weather
Averages: High 86 Low 65.
If past
races are any indication, it will be a steamy evening, as typical late afternoon
thundershowers are a good possibility.
