Provision Health and Wellness Dogwood Classic 5k
The splendor of spring in East Tennessee comes alive with the blooming
of the Dogwoods. Where better to see the Dogwoods and flowers than along
Cherokee Boulevard in the Sequoyah Hills area of Knoxville, one of the
premier areas of beautiful homes and manicured lawns in the Southeast?
This area also hosts a scenic greenway in the median that covers the entire
length of Cherokee Boulevard.
This is the setting for the annual Dogwood Classic Road Race and Fitness
Walk. The event starts and finishes adjacent to Sequoyah Park on the west
side of Cherokee Boulevard with pre and post race activities in the park
itself. This is one of East Tennessee's most scenic and popular routes
for a variety of exercise related activities throughout the year.
The start is primarily flat but on a narrow two-lane road which means
some congestion at the start. The out and back course takes you within
sight of the Tennessee River/Ft. Loudon Lake and the view of the bluffs
across the river is noteworthy. The course is along a curvy road with
plenty of Dogwood and flower blooms lining the route (weather permitting).
After a flat to gently rolling set of hills you pass by an Indian mound
in the median just before the 1 mile point. Within another quarter mile
you come to a beautiful fountain area in the center of the median/road.
At this point the course leaves Cherokee Boulevard and navigates a loop
around Talahi Gardens, returning to the fountain, at which point a right
turn will start the runners on their way back. The finish area is flat
to a slight downhill. Course monitors, mile markers, split timers, and
water stops are provided along the route.
Averages: High 73 Low 47.
Spring will likely be bustin' out all over. This is not a race to miss.
