 | On a crisp and splendid first day of 2010, the Knoxville Track Club presented its annual New Year's Day 5k along the banks of the Tennessee River. |
 | A record turnout was on hand to welcome in the new year. |
 | KTC Managing Director Kristy Altman made sure last minute plans were on track. |
 | Race Director Eddie Reymond greeted the huge throng and made a few prerace remarks. |
 | The tension grew throughout the playing of the National Anthem. |
 | With the explosion of the starter's pistol, more than six hundred runners leaped into action. |
 | The big crowd streamed past. |
 | It seemed to take forever for everyone to get past the camera position. |
 | The frosty morning warmed almost as quickly as the runners themselves. |

One man proudly showed off his new race shirt. |

Some runners were overdressed, others got it just right. |

The pace was quick right from the start. |

Toward the back of the pack mixed runners and walkers both. |

Trailing the pack but intent on a great workout, everyone
was out for a good time. |

Finally the back of the pack moved underneath the Henley Street
Bridge and out onto the race course. |

Less than 5k to go! |
Unfortunately, at this point, the camera battery decided to give up the ghost, though it had been fully charged the night before. Time for a new battery! Darn shame, too, cause to witness Anthony Famiglietti come barreling through the finish chute less than fifteen minutes later was a treat!
