Tennessee Sports Medicine
EXPO 10,000 and 5k Run/Walk
Saturday, May 23, 2009

A bright, sunny May morning greeted over a thousand participants who assembled in downtown Knoxville for the 32nd annual Tennessee Sports Medicine EXPO 10,000 and 5k Run/Walk.
At 7:59, the streets were empty. But not for long...
Moments later, two motorcycles powered up the hill.
Seconds later, Ernest Kimeli and Ryan Woods, destined to finish one-two in this year's race, sped by in the wake of the lead bikes.
Paul Thames and Michael Mentz were in hot pursuit. Mentz finished third overall.

First place female was Caroline Kiptoo.

Kathy Wolski was third overall female.
Chattanooga's Tim Ensign battled his way to top masters honors.
Newly minted masters runner Keith Gemeinhart (red singlet) eked out a narrow victory of fellow masters competitor Jon Lawler (211) to claim 2nd masters.
Valerie Bachman outran all female masters road racers to win the top spot.
Marsha Morton claimed second place female masters.
Greg Johnson ran strong to top all grandmasters runners.
Jeff Colfer (78) finished as second grandmasters male.
Malcolm Oliver was anointed top veterans runner.
Ed Wright won the accompanying 5k Run/Walk.
Ken Childs and Jason Altman made sure chip timing functioned flawlessly for fast, accurate results.
Marc Lambo was one of the many streakers who can still claim having finished each and every EXPO race.
The big crowd stayed around to quaff beverages and replenish their empty tanks.
Race Director and KTC Managing Director Kristy Altman did an awesome job leading her first EXPO.

EXPO has always been a fine family affair and we all look forward to its 33rd running in the spring of 2010.

Enjoy the summer!
