Strawberry Plains Half Marathon / 10k
Saturday, February 16, 2008

Along the swirling waters of the Holston River, over five hundred runners tested themselves in the KTC's annual Strawberry Plains Half Marathon and 10k.
From a distance, the tension is palpable as race time approaches.
The gunshot rings through the valley and they're off!
The teeming throng sweeps past.
Half marathoners and 10Kers mingle, not sure who is turning back in three miles and who is there for the long haul.
The narrow roadway is filled with runners of all sizes and abilities.
One of those with the most ability, Stewart Ellington, led the way at the ten-mile mark.
But the relentless Andy Baksa was stalking, just a short distance back, and went on to take the victory.
Alan Horton battled his way to third place overall.
Bob and Brad Adams, sons of former KTC President Brint Adams, ran well. Bob was just a week off finishing second overall at the Tampa Marathon, and Brad smashed his dad's PR by over a minute, finishing 12th overall.
Elijah Shekinah won the accompanying 10k, barely outlasting his Runners Market teammate, Daniel Julian, by a mere second.
Kathy Wolski, barely a month removed from having another baby, ran well enough to win top prize in the women's very competitive 30-34 age group.
I.C. King of Trails Race Director Jack Kilislian took time off from serious racing long enough to make a lovely face for the camera.
Rookie Straw Plains co-race director Kristy Altman gets a hug of congratulations from husband Jason, director of the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon.
Outside, KTC Executive Director Betty Schohl monitors the laptop with help from Ken Childs (seated) and a tired looking husband, Jerry, who's just completed the half marathon.

Finishers stream across the finish line, each victorious in their own way.

Please join the Knoxville Track Club again next year for the running of the Strawberry Plains Half Marathon and 10k.
