Summer Solstice 8k
Saturday, June 21, 2008

"Rookie" race director Bobby Holcombe appears to have everything well in hand as he saunters around the race site, red notebook in hand, prior to this year's Knoxville Track Club Summer Solstice 8k road race held at the Mill House Restaurant on June 21, 2008.
With a blur of frenzied motion, the field leaps into action upon the bark of the starter's pistol.
They race down the driveway of the Mill House and hang a sharp left onto Old Walland Highway.
The big crowd pushes hard in preparation for their upcoming duel with the relentless hills of Cold Springs Road.
Just past the turnaround, Jeff Day showed everyone that the race was his and his alone as he rocketed to a huge lead. He blew the doors off the former course record to gain the victory.
It took the efforts of a good number of cheerful volunteers to ensure the success of this year's race.
The awards ceremony featured a lot of quaffable beverages, as did the post race party.
The bluegrass band "Fresh Picked" entertained everyone with their inimicable brand of musical stylings.

As always, the postrace food and drinks were satisfying and plentiful as participants spread blankets and lawn chairs astride the gracefully sloping lawn of the Mill House to enjoy the festivities and good company.

Please join us next year for the annual Summer Solstice 8K!
