Autumnfest 8k
Thursday, November 27, 2008

A gorgeous November morning greeted over a thousand participants on Thanksgiving 2008 for the Knoxville Track Club's annual BlueCross Autumnfest 8k.
The big crowd edged nervously toward the starting line as 8:30 approached.
Some of the fastest runners in the region toed the line for this year's race.
When the gun rang out, it took quite a while for the huge throng to move out onto Neyland Drive.
Some were overdressed, expecting a nippier morning than it actually turned out.

Just over 24 minutes later, white-clad Andy Baksa sped into view to claim the overall victory.

Former Autumnfest winner Stu Ellington churned toward the finish line, earning second place.
Teammate Alan Horton outraced two close competitors to finish third.
Jessica Von Hatten outlasted masters whiz Kathy Wolski to take second place among females.
Kathy lost her left shoe in the homestretch but still held on for third.
Thoughts of turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie had to be stirring in the back of folks' minds by the time they approached the finish line.
The warm and commodious downstairs at Ruth's Chris provided a merry venue for the postrace celebration.
Ceramic coffee mugs, some with gift certificates from generous sponsors, were awarded to the fastest runners.
Second year race director Elijah Shekinah once again did a bangup job stewarding this KTC tradition.
Hope everyone has a delightful Thanksgiving! We thank you for participating in this year's BlueCross Autumnfest 8k.
