New Year's Day 5K
Sunday, January 1, 2006

A fine and frosty morning greeted runners early on the first day of 2006.
Many runners warmed up on the Riverside Greenway alongside Calhouns, host of the 2006 Knoxville Track Club New Year's Day 5K.
It was toasty inside as runners and organizers worked to get everything ready for the gala event.
As always, it took the efforts of a number of skilled and friendly volunteers.

As the gun sounded the fun began.
Sixteen short minutes later, Oak Ridge High School coach Allen Etheridge steamed across the finish line to claim victory.
Former Knoxvillian Mary Jo Schmalz of Birmingham AL was the top female road racer at this year's race.
Running alongside the Tennessee River has always offered solace and peace for the Knoxville runner.  Please join us next year on New Year's Day morning, as we not only gain such solace and peace but attempt to exorcise the demons of New Year's Eve revelry from our bodies.
