Dogwood Classic 5K
Saturday April 29 2006

In the early morning hours of April 29, the Knoxville Track Club began assembling everything needed for this year's Dogwood race, sponsored by Tennessee Sports Medicine and Runners Market.
Hundreds of runners gathered in the predawn hour to pick up packets and ready themselves for this year's grand event.
Everyone did their warmups in preparation for the race.
The national anthem was played in the lone moment of solemnity.
All eyes were on Old Glory.
Then off they went!
The huge throng began to surge ahead.
Everyone was in high spirits.
Alan Horton was among the early leaders.
His teammate Eric Bell powered ahead down the long straightaway, intent on competing for the crown.
But Stewart Ellington had other ideas.
Stew outkicked his rivals to win.
Horton was second.
Eric Bell took third overall.
Ernie Brooks continued his fine running, claiming the grandmasters title.
Bob Barber (red singlet) was top veterans runner, racing to a 19:15 clocking.
Jasmin Keller continued the parade of red and white to the awards platform with her victory in the women's division.
Gennie Barrett (885) duelled it out to take the female runnerup position.
Valerie Bachmann was the third place overall female.
Most of the overall award winners gathered together for a photo opportunity.
Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Engine 12, everyone was able to rest assured that things were in good hands.
And the 2006 Dogwood Classic 5K was a grand success, for fast and slow, for young and old.  Please join us again next year!!!
