Whitestone 30K
Sunday March 6 2005

In the early morning hours of March 6 the sun began to burn its way through the mists over Watts Bar Lake to illuminate the wonderful Whitestone 30K for the Knoxville Track Club.
Soon the sun reflected off the snowy white paint of the Whitestone Inn.
Inside the Inn, Angie Manis was hard at work entering registration data.
Anne Wahlert was helping runners like Jeff Colfer pick up his race packet.
Four strong women get ready to roar.
KTC executive director Marshall Myer fired the starter's pistol and the race was on!
The crowd sprinted away injudiciously down the long and winding road.
The downhills were to take their toll on more than a few quadriceps as the morning wore on.
Soon the large throng was moving off at a more sensible pace up Paint Rock Road.
Less than two hours later, UT's Denton Jones had earned the first place overall finisher's award, breaking the course record in the process.
Elijah Shekinah was second overall, and led the Runners Market Racing Team to the team relay victory.
Larry Brede was third overall.
Johnna French claimed yet another KTC Long Distance title.
From Team EBS came Allison Pastorek to claim second place overall female.
Bobby Sumpter, who always runs well here, was the overall male masters titlist, surprising even himself.
This guy could've used some Bodyglide.
In the end it was all about the hills...
...and the wonderful volunteers...
...and two terrific race directors...
...a wonderful venue...
and the scenic glory of East Tennessee.  See y'all next year at the Whitestone!
