Strawberry Plains Half Marathon / 10K
Saturday, February 21, 2004

On a beautiful Saturday morning, hundreds of runners showed up at Rush Strong School in Strawberry Plains for KTC's annual Strawberry Plains Half Marathon and 10K road races.
A large day of race turnout swelled numbers to record proportions.
Angie Manis and Bob McLean worked furiously both at entering registrants and cranking out the results once the races were finished.
Ace race director Frank Murphy looks a bit concerned before the race, but with yeoman's help from his co-director/wife Donna, worries were unneeded, as their preparations proved perfect.
Outside, Ron Fuller led his ace finish line crew in assembling the starting stanchions.
Eric Vandervort took an early lead and steamed to a victory in the half marathon.
Eight of the top ten runners were masters runners, and, although Jay Bachmann was seventh overall, four forty year olds were ahead of him.
Rita Mehta (dressed all in blue instead of her Runners Market uniform) was third overall female.
Kristy Newton was first grandmasters female.
Mike Wortley was second overall in the 10K.
A definite good time was had by Judy Seneker, a long-time generous supporter of KTC with her business Threds/AdPrint.
One and all were pleased and proud to finish the challenging course.
Stalwart runner and volunteer Teri Stephens invites everyone to join her at the upcoming Smoky Mountain Half Marathon on March 20.
