Despite drenching rains overnight, the skies cleared and the sun graced the annual gathering of greenways racers on April 5.

The not-so-long and winding road that awaited competitors on this spring Saturday.
Spring was certainly in evidence as the dogwoods and redbuds glowed in the gentle breezes.
A stellar crew of finish line attendants awaited the finishers.
And they didn't have to wait long until first place finisher Elijah Shekinah whipped through the chute.
Ronnie Manis came loping in next, outdoing his usual 17:30 by several seconds.
Speedster Jasmin Keller was third overall and top female performer, running a fine 17:45.
Jay Bachmann was fourth overall.  His time was 17:52.
Marsha Morton was second overall female.
Dan Gannon and Don Cassel performed their inimitable brand of eclectic bluegrass for the enjoyment of the crowd afterward.

West High School once again proved a comfortable and convenient staging area for this event.

And, after all had given their best and recovered, a gorgeous lemon trillium stood in the woods just meters from the greenway, an enduring yet fleeting testament to the nature of fitness and human effort.  See you next year at the new and improved Greenways 5K!
