The pastoral Mill House Restaurant near Walland was the site of the annual Mill House Classic 15K road race, put on by the Knoxville Track Club.

Race director Cindy Spangler and KTC Vice President Ron Fuller talk over a few last minute details as race time approaches.

The racers stood at attention as the sounds of Evan Carawan's hammer dulcimer echoes through the valley.

"And the home of the brave..."

As the gun sounded, the competitors burst into motion.

There's less than 15K to go!

An all-star finish line crew was waiting.

A short 48 minutes later, Stewart Ellington came powering down the final straightaway to claim victory.

Bobby Holcombe was not far behind, as he raced to a big time PR.

Masters racer par excellence Greg Johnson barreled down the homestretch to the cheers of his daughters, among others.

Marsha Morton was tops overall female.

Melanie Cox was second woman.

KTC Executive Director Allan Morgan donned racing duds and shoes and worked his way through the 9.3 miles, earning 2nd in the men's 55-59 age group.

Back in the kitchen, Richard Estes was whipping up a fantastic feast of Belgian Waffles, eggs and all the fixin's.

A cool morning had warmed nicely, so those waiting in the food line had no problem at all.
Inside there was heard a minimum of gab and a plethora of chowing down.

Afterwards there was time for sittin' and relaxing on the Mill House's fine front porch.

It was an outstanding job by a superb race director and her fine crew.

And, as the trees slowly turn from summer to fall decor, the waters of the old mill spill steadily westward.  Please join us next fall for one of the finest races on the KTC calendar, the Mill House Classic 15K.
