Grand Prix Team Competition

The KTC Grand Prix Team Program is a series of races in the Knoxville area. Teams compete under uniform rules and qualify for race and year-end awards and recognition. Divisions for the 2014 season are Open, Women, Co-Ed, Masters, and Corporate.

Starting with the 2014 New Year's Day 5k, the KTC Team Coordinator will be Julia Conner. If you want to start a team, all you need to do is have the team captain email a team roster to the KTC Team Coordinator. This roster only needs to have names of each team member but it can also include ages, genders, and categories you wish to compete in. Before each team race, the Team Coordinator will email the team captain a registration website and code and each team member who wishes to compete must use the website to register online at least one week prior to the race. Then all you need to do is show up!

Divisions

Open - Teams of 4 or more; no gender restrictions

Women - Teams of 3 or more; all female

Co-Ed - Teams of 4 or more, where the team score must include at least 2 female finishers

Masters - Teams of 3 or more, where each member of the team is at least 40 years old; the team score must include at least 1 female finisher

Corporate - Teams of 3 or more, where the team score must include at least 1 female finisher. Every runner must be an employee or a member of an employee's immediate family to count for a corporate team

Each team can enter any or all of the categories but each runner can only count towards the score in one category. There is no requirement to fill more than one category; they are separate competitions. Runners will be placed in categories prior to the race by the team captain (via email with the KTC Team Coordinator) or by the KTC Team Coordinator. NO CATEGORY SWITCHING ON RACE DAY.

Entries

ALL team members who wish to compete in an event must register online at least one week prior to that event. The KTC Team Coordinator will email all team captains after team entries are closed to confirm the race entries and roster for each category and volunteers. Team captains will have an opportunity to check their rosters and categories. The rosters will be finalized 48 hours prior to each team race. NO TEAM ENTRIES ON RACE DAY.

Before a team is allowed to compete in its first event of the year, the team captain must email a complete roster to the KTC Team Coordinator. The roster can include a competition category (Open, Women, Co-Ed, Masters) for each runner but this is not required. Captains can add runners to their rosters throughout the year but if a runner is on one team's roster the captains from both teams must email the KTC Team Coordinator before the runner can switch teams. Each runner can only be on one team's roster at a time.

Scoring

For all team races, each team's score will be determined by cross country type scoring for their top four runners for Open and Co-Ed teams and top three runners for Women's, Masters and Corporate teams (subject to gender rules). That is, each eligible runner earns the number of points equal to his or her place in the competition. The points for each team in each category are added and the team with the lowest score wins. Each runner can only score in one category.

Point totals for the Grand Prix Team Competition Awards for all divisions will be based on 8 of 10 scores from any or all of the team races. Points are awarded in each division at each qualifying event as follows: 1st = 5 pts, 2nd = 4 pts, 3rd = 3 pts, 4th = 2 pts, 5th = 1 pt.

Awards

Top teams will be recognized at the awards ceremony following each team race and the top team in each category will receive a certificate. The top scoring team in each category at the end of the year will have its name engraved on a cup and will receive one free entry to each team race the following year.

The corporate team with the most total number of participants over all the team races will have its name engraved on the Corporate Cup and will be able to display it the following year. Each runner can count towards the total multiple times, once for each team competition he or she enters.

Volunteering

Teams will only be eligible to score points at each qualifying event if they provide at least one volunteer for the event. Volunteers will receive a $5 coupon good toward the entry for any KTC race excluding the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon events. Team captains must include team volunteers in their roster email to the KTC Team Coordinator prior to each team race. Volunteers may be required to be non-running volunteers based on race director discretion.

Results

Results will be posted following each race on the KTC Website.
